PAT CONAGHAN MP YOUR FEDERAL MEMBER for Cowper A thank you to our communities in the wake of our floods We have once again felt the effects of a natural disaster on our communities across the Mid North Coast. Thousands of homes, businesses and properties have been directly affected and are now facing the clean-up and ongoing ramifications. I will continue to work alongside our dedicated state MPs and fight for the funding and resourcing that our residents and local councils need to get this job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. The individual home, farm and business losses will be considerable. Relief funding will continue to be announced and updated by both the State and Federal Governments to assist with this. Every council right across the Mid North Coast now must grapple with the enormous task of asset assessments and repairs, from roads to sewerage to sporting facilities and everything in between. These will take time to achieve and will need to be effectively prioritised, and I am thankful that we have some of the most diligent and hard-working Mayors in our midst to get this done. I will be checking in regularly with each council to escalate our needs to the necessary Parliamentary Offices. I wanted to take the opportunity to thank our local communities for their support of one another during this time. While we saw the worst of what Mother Nature can do to our townships, we saw the best in our people. Incredible displays of selfless service from our local SES crews, Marine Rescue and emergency services, businesses donating supplies and food, thousands of helping hands ready to assist in rescue efforts and clean up. Personally, I saw the level of resilience and stoicism that regional Australians are famous for, often with a side of cheeky humour in the face of devastating circumstances. We are a strong community who have always supported one another, and I know we will continue to do so over the coming weeks. To say that I am proud to represent you in Canberra is an understatement. While I am yet to be officially sworn in as your Federal MP, I will continue to fight for what we need and deserve. Thank you.
